Wooden Kaleidoscopes, "Sierra Spalted Maple" By Peggy and Steve Kittelson.
Peggy and Steve Kittelson have been making kaleidoscopes for over 30 years. They are my "neighbors" in an Iowa town that is about an hour and a half away by car from my Iowa town. We first spoke with them when I first became interested in kaleidoscopes, and they encouraged us to join the Brewster Society for kaleidoscope enthusiasts. So, we are most grateful to them for helping us to get started in this wonderful pursuit of kaleidoscopes that became my life-long career!
Peggy and Steve are known for their stained glass kaleidoscopes as well as their lovely wooden ones. In this offering which they named "Sierra Spalted Maple", they have fashioned this gorgeous wooden, highly spalted maple into a lovely body of the kaleidoscope. While the lovely body is of a light color, the eyepiece is made of a darker figured walnut wood that contrasts with the light color of the spalted maple.
• The separate turning oil-filled cell on this beautiful kaleidoscope, "Sierra Spalted Maple" has wonderful hand lamp worked glass inside the chamber cell, The two mirror system inside the body reflects a lovely pattern of ten point symmetry. What you will see inside is breathtakingly beautiful!
• Dimensions are approximately 10 1/4 Inches long by 2 5/8 inches in diameter at the eyepiece end and 2 inches at the cell end.
