Kaleidoscope, Unique Gifts - $1000.00 - $3500.00 Dichroic Glass Kaleidoscope, By Charles Karadimos Dichro 3 # 6 of 8 Dichroic Glass Kaleidoscope, By Charles Karadimos Dichro 3 # 6 of 8. Incredibly precise mirror system within this kaleidoscope. Charles has created another stunning series of kaleidoscopes. With only 8 pieces in the series, this would be a rare and beautiful addition to your collection. The exterior of this kaleidoscope is fused and slumped layers of dichroic glass. Blue dichroic glass is punctuated with a fused panel of dichroic in the middle that mimics the pattern of bamboo. The center panel is black dichroic strips that are fused in a separate step. Then blue dichroic is fused over black glass. Then all these separate pieces are cased or fused with a layer of clear glass to create a smooth surface and add dimension. Then all the pieces of dichroic glass are fused and slumped together to create the two sides of the cone for kaleidoscope. Charles uses two pieces of the fused dichroic for the eyepiece as well and then the cone is assembled with traditional stained glass solder work.
The object cell is a traditional dry cell that creates the nostalgic "clink clink" tumbling sound of a kaleidoscope. Each piece of glass within the object cell is hand selected by Charles and many of them are flame worked by Charles. He is one of the few artist brave enough to add black to his interiors. Charles feels that it needs the black for definition or punctuation within his images. He's right.
The background of the object cell is a textured piece of clear dichroic glass which adds shimmer and a delicate texture to the background of the interior image.
Charles is also a master of the mirror system. The cone shape has been used by Charles as he feels this is the best way to achieve symmetrical images. This 2 mirror system creates a 9 point star that is precise and symmetrical to the very center point.
This interior image is one of the most intricate and precise images we offer at this time. Not something we would say lightly here at Kaleidoscopes To You.
